Embracing Self Care

Welcome to your essential guide to wellness therapies. I started dabbling in the alternative therapy space back in 2016 when Higher Dose launched their full spectrum Infrared Sauna. I instantly saw the benefits of my bi-weekly sessions and was such a game changer for me both physically and mentally. I have since expanded my wellness therapy routine to incorporate different therapies at Recoverie, my local wellness club (and practically my second home since I’ve been hibernating there!), as it is a necessity to set my wellness game into overdrive during the winter months with the lack of vitamin D (aka sunshine). It's so easy to get swept up in the chaos of our can’t stop won’t stop world, but here's the secret: taking care of yourself isn't selfish—it's sacred. So, grab your favorite face mask, cue up your go-to playlist, and let's dive into some self-care rituals that'll have you feeling like the fierce, unstoppable powerhouse you truly are.

RED LIGHT THERAPY BED

First up, let's talk about the red light therapy bed. Picture yourself basking in the soothing glow of red and near-infrared light, stimulating collagen production, reducing inflammation, and giving your skin that lit-from-within glow. Now, doesn’t that sound heavenly? It's seriously like a mini spa day for your skin, leaving you feeling radiant and rejuvenated. I started using the red light bed this winter because ICYMI I sprained my ankle arriving into Paris (I know!). Asides from PT, I found out that a lot of athletes swear by the red light bed to help sport injuries heal quicker. I have noticed improvements since starting the treatments, plus other added beauty benefits which are a MAJOR bonus. Each session is about 20 minutes, and for me, it always goes too fast!

Why I use it: Tissue repair, Glowing skin, Mood enhancement (hello artificial vitamin D!)

How often: Once a week

INFRARED SAUNA

Next stop on my wellness routine? An infrared sauna sesh, because who doesn't love a little heat therapy especially when it’s cold outside? Step into that cozy sauna, let the infrared light work its magic on your muscles, and feel the stress melt away. Not only does it detoxify your body and promote relaxation, but it also boosts circulation and leaves you feeling like a zen goddess. The thing I love the most about the infrared sauna is that you can change the light depending what you/your body needs since each color focuses on a different chakra. On days when I want them all, I go on autopilot mode and get a little of each light (not recommended for those who get easily dizzy, as it’s like a strobe light effect). My second favorite thing is hooking up to my spotify and getting a full on jam session in there and singing my heart out.

Why I use it: Detoxify, Weight loss, Get to my happy place, whatever my happy place is on that given day

How often: 1-2x a week

COMPRESSION THERAPY

Now, let's talk compression therapy. Though there are many benefits of compression therapy, I specifically tried it for the first time last week because I was having a case of the insomnias for a few nights and wanted to get back to my regular slumber. I asked Siobhan, the founder of Recoverie, what therapy was best and she recommended a compression therapy session. Needless to say, she did not steer me wrong! I have been having the best sleep of my life since I went and I could not be more grateful. So, if you have never tried it, I highly recommend you slipping into those sleek compression boots and letting them work their magic on your tired muscles. Whether you're recovering from a tough workout or just need a little pick-me-up, compression therapy is like a big hug for your lower body, promoting circulation, reducing swelling, and leaving you feeling light as air, and for me, sounder sleep 🤗

Why I use it: Sleep, lymphatic drainage

How often: Once every 3 weeks

CRYOTHERAPY

Last but certainly not least, we can't forget about full body cryotherapy – the ultimate chill session for your body and mind. I have to admit I was a little bit nervous at first since I am a total sun baby and not a huge fan of arctic temperatures, but I braced myself for the chill, stepped into that cryo chamber, and let the magic happen. It was life changing for me. I initially went for my knee pain, but not only did it reduce the inflammation and relieve pain, but it also left me feeling energized and ready to conquer the world. I had the boundless energy of a toddler throughout the whole day without any caffeine. My mind was clearer, my confidence was flowing, and I had one of the most creatively productive days. Overall, a total win in my book!

Why I use it: Energy Boost

How Often: When the mood strikes

And voilà– the key to a fabulous self care routine featuring four of my go-to practices. Incorporate some or all of these treatments into your routine depending on what your body needs, and you'll be be well on your way to feeling rejuvenated and refreshed. Here's to prioritizing self-care and feeling fantastic!
