End of Summer Short List
Summer feels like it came and went and now we are about to live in that grey period of not knowing what to wear. I, for one, am not ready to say goodbye to summer or my summer clothes just quite yet. Here are my three favorite outerwear pieces to make my summer clothes wearable in September. and beyond
The White Blazer
I don’t adhere to the archaic concept that white cannot be worn after labor day. I love white—it is one of my favorite colors to wear not only because it goes great with my skintone, but because it is such a classic color and ALWAYS makes a statement. I think my love for white started when Angelina Jolie wore a white pantsuit to the 2001 Oscars. I loved it so much I bought my own white pantsuit and wore it to work weeks following the broadcast and even styled my hair the same way. My level of commitment runs deep! The thing that I love about a white blazer is that you can wear it different ways—with matching white pants to rock that power suit vibes, with a pair of jeans for your more casual chic days or even a pair of shorts for your weekend brunch dates.
Pro-Tip: Make sure to get a blazer that fits your properly and get it tailored if necessary.
The leather jacket
I love a good leather jacket and if you get the right leather jacket, it will last you for years. I have had my favorite one for over ten and am still in love with it. I wear it everywhere and during every season, even summer! My leather jacket is also one of my summer staples since evenings can get a bit brisk and it goes with everything. The great thing about leather is that you never feel underdressed.
Pro-Tip: Get a simple leather jacket for your “everything purposes” since it is easier to style . I love leather jackets and have many, but have one black one that goes with me everywhere. Make sure to opt for one that is soft with silver vs gold hardware/zippers.
the trench
The trench is something that will never go out of style IMHO. There are so many styles out there today, but I prefer those with a loose fit that can be belted to fit your silhouette or the occasion, for that matter. Getting the right trench is essential so it works well for your daytime excursions, but can also elevate your nighttime look. Though there are many trench styles are available it is best to get a trench with a belt since they are more versatile, and you can style it any which way,.
Pro-Tip: Don’t button your trench, just cinch with the belt either in the back, leave it open like above or knot belt it in the front if you want a more finished look
