My Ride or Dies: #PelotonFamFaves Part I
So, some of you may have caught my previous post on WFH Wellness, where I went into my routine for staying fit and staying sane. Though I already did speak a little about my Peloton journey there, I received a lot of questions and requests for my favorite instructors and classes. I know we are all different, so my cup of tea may not be yours, but if you are a newbie, looking to explore the cycling world of peloton read on. To make it easy peasy, I’ve added screenshots of some of my favorite classes at the end of each instructor so you can locate them quicker.
Cody Rigsby
Workout Mood: Sweating to the Oldies (This is meant as a compliment!)
Why I love him: Cody is ray of sunshine personified. He is fun, energetic and has the best one liners! His rides are always “fun and flirty” and he pays homage to some of my faves—Britney, Backstreet Boys, ya know, the true OGs. He is also very motivational and a ride with him always makes me feel better than when I started.
Catch Phrase: Bye Boo
Favorite quotes:
When we play Britney, We fuck shit up
If Britney can get through 2007, you can make it up this hill
Settling will get you an ugly boyfriend
Get your life together, Boo!
Let it go, Elsa!
Favorite Classes:
Britney Ride
Backstreet Boys Ride
20 Min 90s Ride (8/20/20) (if you want a real great all women artist ride, this is a MUST DO)
Best of the Decade Ride (Definite MUST DO)
Robin Arzon
Workout Mood: Bootcamp
Why I love her: She gets you to go further than you think you can. Robin is a hustler and gets you to hustle harder. One day I took a low impact class because I needed something simple—Spoiler Alert: it wasn’t simple, BUT I was glad I did it and pushed myself further than I thought I was capable of doing that day. I also feel like when she is talking, she is talking to ME. Every time I take a class with Robin I feel like I can take on the world and do anything I put my mind to..
Fun fact, she was a reformed lawyer and as someone who also left the corporate world it is nice to workout with someone who you can relate to and who can relate to you.
Catch Phrase: Hello Hustlers
Favorite quotes:
You’ve done more in these 15 minutes, than most people do in their lives
Put your crown back on your head and remember who you are
Know your worth and then add tax
I’d rather choke on greatness than nibble on mediocrity
When mediocrity comes calling...hang up, baby. WE DON'T ANSWER THAT.
If they took up space in your head without paying rent, you need to evict them
Favorite Classes:
45 Min Pop Ride (11/6/2020): Great beats and positive vibes get you through the ride with some arms mixed in
30 minute pop ride (8/28/2020): Get ready for some great throwbacks
Denis Morton
Workout Mood: SoulCycle
Why I love him: His rides are truly enjoyable AND he is funny as hell—I am literally laughing during the ride with his off the wall commentaries and his signature dance moves. His music selection is A-MAZING and he really gets you going without being a cheerleader. I love riding with him because he is super down to earth and it’s like we are really riding somewhere (and i don’t even know how to ride a real bike!). BONUS: He’s hot, or as a friend of mine says, “a tall drink of water on a warm summer day” So, ride for the scenery if you must ;)
Catch Phrase: Be good, If you can't be good, be careful
Favorite quotes:
When the base drum hits, the same foot kicks
Start now. If you wait until the time’s right, you’ll wait forever
If you can’t get out of it, get into it
I make suggestions, you make decisions.
(Toto’s Africa playing) I bless the rains in Africa. Like they need my blessing!
Favorite Classes:
Reset Classes: Definitely do one of these—they are purely cathartic.
Anything 80s or Rock Ballads (My prescription for permagrin)
Kendall Toole
Workout Mood: Cardio Kicboxing
Why I love her: Kendall is the party girl you didn’t know you needed in your life. She gets the party started and keeps it going—you will seriously wonder how the ride went so fast! I will admit it took me awhile to take one of her classes as I thought she would be too peppy for me, but I’m glad I didn’t judge the book by it’s cover. She does a lot of themed rides and LOVE how she gets into character—honestly inspires me to up my bike fashion game.
Fun fact: She is a trained boxer, so if you take any of her interval rides get ready for some fun boxing inspired moves.
Catchphrase: They can knock you down, but never let them knock you out
Favorite Quotes:
You can do anything for 30 seconds
Light it up!
Sam Yo
Workout Mood: Step Class (if i didn’t age myself with the STTO reference, i’m pretty sure i did here)
Why I love him: Because I surprisingly get some of my best results during his classes. Unlike his American counterparts, he is not overly bubbly and high energy, but extremely effective—apparently British dryness has its benefits! I find myself pushing myself harder unknowingly and have been surprised every time I end his class to see how far I have gone.
He also gets a special shoutout for giving easy instructions on how to detach your shoe from the bike. Until I took one of his classes I have left my shoes attached to the bike. This went on for months. Now I can properly remove them if I ever want to! Highly suggest that you do one of your first rides with him, as he is a great instructor and easy to follow.
And super fun fact, he used to be a Buddhist monk!
Catchphrase: Yes, Yo!
Favorite quotes:
Bring it. Build it. Become it.
To unhook your shoes, make a smile with your heel (this was a lifesaver!)
Favorite Classes:
Bon Jovi Ride
45 min 2000s Ride (my first best Personal Record)
20 min Pop Ride
So those are my current #rideordie peloton crew. Stay tuned for part two where I share some of my other fave peloton classes outside of cycling world. If you are on peloton, let’s follow each other—I’m ARogueRider on the leaderboard. Till next time—AP out.
